Coronavirus: the Vuelta 2020 will no longer start from Holland

The coronavirus, in addition to the much more serious sacrifice in terms of human lives, also continues to mow down sporting events, distorting the initial programs. This morning the news that the Vuelta di Spagna will not start from the Netherlands, since the organizing committee of the Vuelta Holanda has been forced to cancel the official start of the stage race from the regions of Utrecht and North Brabant.

The decision was taken following the reorganization of the 2020 cycling calendar, announced by the International Cycling Union on April 15, but also in relation to the antivirus measures adopted by the Dutch government, which prohibits the dispute of sporting events until September 1. All this directly affects the dates of the Vuelta, which was originally scheduled between 14 August and 6 September. "Unipublic and Vuelta Holanda are at work - reads a statement - to allow the Netherlands to host the official start of the race in the future. The first hypothesized date is that of 2022, but at the moment there are no certainties".
