Those who are sure of their Catholic faith go to confirmation. For parents, godparents and friends, the question then arises: How much money do I give?

  • A confirmation is an important commitment to the Catholic faith for many.
  • It usually takes place between the ages of 14 and 16 and the firmling is thus fully integrated into the religious community - a great day that also makes family, friends and godparents proud.
  • Many want to contribute something for this big occasion - whether a small garden party or a monetary gift . But how much money is actually appropriate?

Cash gifts for confirmation: How much do I actually give?

In general, monetary gifts for confirmation are common. How large they are is up to most of them. But often the parents or relatives - that is, people close to them - give a little more than, for example, the neighbor who is invited to confirm.

It is not uncommon for mom and dad to give the child a few hundred euros - for example in the form of the long-awaited smartphone. Or the grandmother donates 200 euros to her grandson so that he can buy a brand new laptop to do his homework on in the future.

If you invite aunts or uncles and their children to confirm, you can usually expect a cash gift of 100 euros . For friends of the family , on the other hand, 50 to 70, maximum 100 euros are enough . What matters most is how close the participants are and how important the event is to them and how believing they are.

Money gifts for confirmation - as a family, friend or neighbor?

The same applies to the neighbors . If you have a good relationship with your neighbors or maybe even have children of the same age, you may go to church together or hold a confirmation party. This will certainly make it easier for everyone involved to find a "regulation".

After all, one part can provide the garden and the furniture, while the other takes care of the food or the buffet. If this is not possible, an envelope with a nice greeting card and a little cash is a common gift for confirmation. It is advisable to put in  about 30 euros - but the same applies here: the amount of money - whether a little more or less - varies depending on the ratio .

How much money do I give as a company sponsor?

The company sponsor plays a special role . After all, he is available to his protégé as a personal companion with advice and deed and should reinforce his belief. Therefore, they often have a closer and trusting relationship with the firmling. Company godparents can be close relatives or even the former godfather. Parents, on the other hand, cannot take on this role.

Many company godfathers are therefore happy to come up with something special - and give their firmlings generous gifts. The latter can then expect (cash) gifts worth up to 100 euros or even more.

However, if you do not have that much money or would like to give something personal, you can also create a photo album with wonderful holiday or childhood memories. Or jewelry with religious motifs and exciting experiences to give , such as a trip to the high ropes course or a joint photo shoot.
