ORBETELLO (GROSSETO) - The first egg of the pair of osprey that has nested in the WWF Oasis of Orbetello has hatched. The hatching took place on the night of April 28. Three eggs - explains the environmentalist association - "laid on different days, starting from March 20. It is therefore conceivable that the first one was the one that hatched yesterday". "The parents, Mora and Orbetello - continues the WWF - once again used the artificial nest specially built for them by the operators of the Oasis in the integral reserve area of the Ponente Lagoon, far from the guided tour routes". A nest that is equipped with a video system that allows you to observe the images recorded on the Facebook page of the WWF Oasis and the 'Osprey Project'.

The hatching of Orbetello follows those that occurred in recent days in the nests of the Diaccia Botrona nature reserve, also in the Grosseto area. Also in another WWF Oasis in Tuscany, the Padule Orti Bottagone reserve in Piombino (Livorno), included in the osprey project, one or more eggs will be hatched in the next few days.

The osprey, a particularly protected species, often wintered in the Orbetello Oasis but only in spring 2018 did it return to nest, when 3 chicks were born thanks to Mora, female born in Corsica and then ringed in 2013. In these years the return of the osprey in Maremma, explained by the WWF, also took place thanks to the reintroduction project which saw the collaboration between the Scandola nature reserve in Corsica and the Maremma regional park. "We are happy and proud that the WWF Oasis of Orbetello is a safe and welcoming home for the osprey - said Donatella Bianchi, president of WWF Italia -. Now we await the hatching of the other 2 eggs and we look forward to the recovery of a species extraordinary, extinct date in Italy 40 years ago ".
