Because of the corona pandemic , not only companies but also consumers are experiencing financial difficulties. The Göttingen advice center informs the Lower Saxony consumer center that it is no longer possible to pay current costs, such as for rent, real estate loans, electricity and gas, or old-age provision .
Corona crisis: financial emergency - payments can be temporarily suspended
The law on consumer rights allows certain payments due to the Corona crisis to be suspended for a limited time if living expenses are at risk due to the current circumstances.
According to the announcement, the right to refuse performance could help in the short term, but the problem was ultimately only postponed. The Lower Saxony Consumer Center has therefore put together a few tips on where savings can be made. In principle, however, it applies that those affected contact the providers and clarify which options exist.
Corona: Tips against financial hardship - cancel unnecessary contracts or subscriptions
There would often be contracts that are not absolutely necessary, such as supplementary insurance, memberships or subscriptions. Private health insurers could save money by temporarily changing tariffs during the Corona crisis .
Pension contracts would also usually be free of contributions for a certain period of time. The same applies to life and pension insurance.
Those who repay a real estate loan can reduce the monthly installments or suspend payments until the end of June. The unpaid installments would then be due at the end of the term, but the loan contract would be extended.
Corona: No exemption from radio license fee in the event of financial emergency
The right to refuse performance does not apply to the obligation to pay radio fees. Those who are financially in need due to the Corona crisis can get information from the contribution service after a deferral or suspension
