For thirty years, every May 1, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra has given a "Concert for Europe" in a different city. This year, it was planned in Tel Aviv, as part of a state visit by the President of the German Republic, Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The trip was canceled, but not the concert, which has just taken place at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, empty, with a reduced staff, under the direction of music director Kirill Petrenko.

To introduce this event, broadcast live on the Mezzo channel, as well as by the Digital Concert Hall (www.digitalconcerthall.com/de/home), President Steinmeier spoke, to recall that music (in Germany, we does not need to add "classic" ...) is "part of our European culture and is our common treasure ". Before adding: "Art and culture are, literally, food" , playing on the German word "Lebensmittel" which designates food but literally means "vital means"
