The story of a warrior: One eye did not stay dry when in a festive and moving class on Monday, Rebecca Rosenberg, a recent Holocaust survivor who even contracted the Corona virus and recovered, celebrated her 100th birthday.
The "Rectangle" nursing home staff in Rishon Lezion held a party for her on the occasion. As family members were still prohibited from entering the nursing home, her relatives watched her through the pavilion's window while the nursing home noted the festive and unique event.
Rebecca Rosenberg was born in 1920 in Bucharest, Romania. During World War II, she worked at forced labor for the Nazi regime. Sixty years ago, she immigrated to Israel with her late husband Moshe and her son Effi. Since 1966, the family has lived in Rishon Lezion, when Rebecca worked as a gardener by profession.
Her son, Effie, told Israel Today about the exciting birthday celebration: "My joy today is double and doubled. When my mother contracted the Corona virus, I said to myself, 'This is the story.' And now after she has recovered and reached this day she is celebrating 100 years, I Happy".
In the meantime, the Rishon Lezion municipality recently decided to operate eight public gardens for the benefit of residents of the elderly. Inspectors from the First Municipal Security Society have been tasked with securing the gardens to maintain isolation, and prevent young children and youth from accessing the area of veterans' activity in the gardens. The Safe Gardens will be run twice a week, Mondays and Wednesdays, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
