'This is not cricket' is a documentary, but the director, Jacopo de Bertoldi, doesn't seem so invisible at all, he filmed the two protagonists, almost day by day, from adolescence to maturity.
Presented at the 17th edition of Alice Nella Città in Panorama Italia, the docu from 7 May will be distributed in VOD on ZalABB https://partecipa.zalab.org/, ZaLab's streaming live cinema platform. A story of friendship between two youngsters growing up in the multicultural Roman district par excellence, Piazza Vittorio, united by their passion for sport and beyond. Almost entirely shot in Rome, the doc tells a story of marginalization, even multicultural, with protagonists Fernando, a young man raised by the nostalgic housekeeper of the Almirante Social Movement, and Shince his best friend and authentic Roman of Indian origin, two boys fighting for the survival of the Piazza Vittorio Cricket Club. That is the club where they grew up having two coaches of anarchist ideas that made him a bit like a father. In 'This is not cricket' many dialogues between the two boys, on sport, on life, on a distracted Italy, but also Shince's nostalgia for that India he has never known and that at some point will go to see . "Shince and Fernando, the protagonists of my documentary - explains the director -, show that lightness that characterizes the strength of a friendship that only teenagers can have, but they are also the projection of a possible future, that of an open Europe and in continuous evolution. I have sought in them - continues de Bertoldi - in their strength of resistance, this aspiration to freedom from prejudices and frontiers of all kinds.
We are experiencing a very difficult time and the values that embody the two protagonists, those of friendship and solidarity, should be nourished or reinvented within our communities ". 'This is not cricket' is a MIR Cinematografica production with Rai Cinema and the participation of Cinétévé with France Televisions with the support of CNC - Center National du Cinéma et de immagine Anime, development supported by Eurodoc Media - Creative Europe.
