The blue sprinter trains: "What a thrill to run again" (ANSA)

That Tricolor on the balcony that in recent weeks has united Italy in quarantine, this time waving for him. Filippo Tortu came back to smell the scent of tartan, the white stripes on a red background, he knotted the broken thread and, on the first day of training after the lockdown, he regained the cheering of an entire country.

"It was really nice to be back on track," the blue sprinter tells Ansa. One of the many excellences of the Italia Team forced to stay in the pits for two months due to the coronavirus pandemic. Tortu lives in Costa Lambro, a fraction of Carate Brianza, grew up on the Besana Brianza track and trains in Giussano.

Before the collective stop, the athlete of the Yellow Flames trained at the park near the house with his father, coach and brother. Far from danger and in complete safety. Today, on the first day of phase 2 for high level athletes, the excitement was double: "Even more special was the greeting that some inhabitants of the area reserved for me - explains Tortu - From a building near the track, yes they looked out onto the balcony of their home with the Italian flag and they cheered and greeted me with enthusiasm. It was really a very intense and emotional moment ".

At the first openings of the government to the possibility of returning to training, the blue had not hidden the enthusiasm: "I hope it can be a restart not only for me, but for the whole country". And now the Italian record holder of the 100 meters underlines: "It was an emotion, not only for the return to a sort of normalcy, but for the feeling of starting to run again, which in the last month I have been able to do very little" .

Basic workouts to maintain a top form and be ready for the first useful date on the calendar. At the moment, having canceled the European Championships in Paris, and already suspended seven dates of the Diamond League, the most plausible return remains that of a possible national meeting in Italian territory. Meanwhile, however, he enjoys the track and that applause from the balcony all for him.
