'Isolated Texts': thoughts for a locked world

2020-05-05T21:18:02.064Z

Writers, actors, journalists and artists publish a text about the pandemic every day in this new literary project.

The four walls between which we are locked change with the hours and days. Sometimes they shake and drown us, turning the house into a fool. Others collapse and behind them is the beach, the sunset, a forest, or a few beers with friends in a seedy bar to which we long to return. Sometimes the walls serve to contain the families that meet again after the years and others, they are a canvas on which coexistence and relationships exploit. Anguish, violence, misunderstanding, suffocation.

With the virus, those four walls serve to turn everything around. What we are, what we will be, what is to come, whatever it is. It cannot be that we have run out of time. Out of all this thought comes Textos Aisladas , a literary initiative in which several writers, journalists, actors and artists write every day how the quarantine is being in their lives.

“Literature serves to reunite us and these times serve to read more and dialogue more with each other. What better to do through literature ", says Verne Mexican writer Jaime Garba, driver of these chronicles isolation with Francisco Valenzuela, editor of the magazine Revés.

Santiago Roncagliolo, Eileen Truax, Carmen Boullosa, Amandititita, Karina Gidi, Bernardo Fernández 'Bef', among others, are some of the authors who participate in the project. "The texts are very personal," adds Jaime Garba. "We want the project to serve first as a personal catharsis, and secondly, as a reflection and as a vision of the isolation of the readers," says Garba with the interest of finding common ground between those who write and those who read.

“There is a lot of negativity on Twitter, so I found it interesting to start writing chronicles about isolation. Every time people share more personal things about psychological issues, there are those who have entered a kind of anxiety crisis or begin to share more personal ideas than before. They have been opened little by little ”, points out the writer.

While the son of Santiago Roncagliolo, in Barcelona, plays the only Champions that is currently being played, that of video games; Eileen Truax walks through Michigan and Bef washes the dishes in Mexico City and draws with her daughter. Between Los Angeles and Mexico, the singer Amandititita reflects on what it means to be afraid and the actress Karina Gidi stops and breathes, something she has not done for a long time.

Jaime Garba believes that the situation until returning to a relative normality goes a long way and that the cultural crisis we are facing will be strong, however, he remains optimistic about what society will be like afterwards, "we are going to be transformed," says the Writer. The creators of Isolated Texts will publish a book with all the chronicles as a permanent memory that will serve to explain the year in which we live locked up.
