Apple-Google, how risk exposure alerts work

2020-05-05T07:30:24.905Z

To trigger 'alert' infection, 5-minute exposure is needed (ANSA)

The system of tracking the contagion of the coronavirus that Apple and Google are developing is being defined, it will be the basis for several countries, including Italy, to develop an app. The two technological giants publish on GitHub the source code of their project and examples of the screens that will appear on the devices both if you want to communicate your positivity to Covid-19, and if you want to be notified of the exposure to the infection with a positive person who it will have to be five minutes. For both situations there will be voluntary user adhesion.

The system should be completed in mid-May, from that date onwards the tracking apps of all countries that have adopted the system will presumably be ready, therefore also Italy, which from 18 May could prepare for new slack.

In essence - it is clear from the screens that will appear on both iPhones and Android devices - it will be a voluntary choice of the user to enter their positivity report, as well as enable the system that will be able to warn that on a certain date you have been in proximity of a positive person and therefore probably exposed to infection. The steps following this notice - it is clarified - will be carried out by the country's health authority.

These communications take place through an identification code that generates your device and exchanges anonymously via bluetooth with other devices that use the system. These codes remain on the user's smartphone (the so-called decentralized approach that Italy is also pursuing) and therefore are under its control. The system - specify Apple and Google - does not use localization even for users who have tested positive; the identity is not known to any other user, not even to the companies themselves.
