In Italy the total infected, i.e. currently coronavirus positive, the victims and the recovered, are 211,938 with an increase compared to yesterday of 1,221. The data was made known by the Civil Protection. On Sunday the increase on the previous day had been 1,389 cases.

The contagion data in Lombardy are in line with yesterday's figures : the positives in the region are 78,105 (+577) with 7,978 buffers. Yesterday the new positives had been 526 with 7.155 swabs. The deaths are 14,294 with an increase of 63 new deaths (yesterday 42), with no changes in hospitalizations in intensive care (532), while the number of beds occupied in the other wards is falling (6,414, -195). These are the data disclosed by the Lombardy Region.

For the first time since the beginning of the Coronavirus emergency, there are no new infections or deaths in Sardinia.
This is what was ascertained by the Regional Crisis Unit in the latest update of the data on Covid-19 positivity cases.

Istat-Iss, in Bergamo + 568% deaths in March, -9.4% Rome -
From February 20 to March 31, 2020 there are 13,710 deaths for Covid-19 in Italy. The data emerges from the Report produced by the National Institute of Statistics (Istat) and the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS). Total mortality data refer to 6,866 municipalities (87% of the 7,904 in total). This is the "first time - notes the Report - that Istat disseminates this information referring to such a large number of municipalities".

Considering the month of March, it is explained in the Report, a 49.4% growth in deaths due to all the causes is observed at national average level . If we take as a reference the period from the first Covid-19 death reported to the Integrated Surveillance System (February 20) until March 31, the deaths go from 65,592 (average period 2015-2019) to 90,946, in 2020 . The excess of deaths is 25,354 units, of these 54% are Covid-19 diagnosed deaths (13,710) .

There is therefore, notes the director of the infectious diseases department of the ISS Gianni Rezza, "a further share of about 11,600 other deaths for which we can, with the data available today, only hypothesize three possible causes: an additional mortality associated with Covid- 19, in cases where the swab was not performed; an indirect mortality related to Covid-19, in deaths caused by malfunctions of other organs; an indirect mortality not related to the virus but caused by the crisis of the hospital system in the most affected areas " .

Covid-19 lethality is higher in male subjects in all age groups, with the exception of the 0-19 age group . In 34.7% of the reported cases, at least one co-morbidity is reported (one of: cardiovascular, respiratory, diabetes, immune deficiencies, metabolic, oncological pathologies, obesity, kidney pathologies).

91% of the excess mortality found at the national average level in March 2020 is concentrated in the areas of high spread of the epidemic: 3,271 municipalities, 37 northern provinces plus Pesaro and Urbino. In all of these provinces, deaths from all causes have more than doubled compared to the 2015-2019 average for the month of March. If we consider the period from February 20 to March 31, the deaths have gone from 26.218 to 49.351 (+ 23.133); just over half of this increase (52%) is the deaths reported to the Covid-19 Integrated Surveillance System (12,156).

Within this grouping, the provinces most affected by the epidemic paid a very high price in human lives , with percentage increases in deaths in March 2020, compared to March 2015-2019, in three figures : Bergamo (568%), Cremona (391%), Lodi (371%), Brescia (291%), Piacenza (264%), Parma (208%), Lecco (174%), Pavia (133%), Mantua (122%), Pesaro and Urbino (120%) . On the contrary, in the areas least affected by the epidemic, especially in the center-south, the deaths of the month of March 2020 are on average 1.8% lower than the average of the previous five years, and in Rome there was a figure equal to - 9.4% . The great majority of deaths occur in the provinces defined as high diffusion (89%), where it is 8% in the medium diffusion areas and 3% in the low diffusion areas. The Report therefore highlights the existence of "three Italies" with respect to the SarsCov2 epidemic.
