Coronavirus: farmhouse on its knees. Ismea estimates 1 billion losses (ANSA)

 - The estimated loss for Italian agritourisms in 2020 is 1 billion euros, with a general impact on tourist flows, catering services and, therefore, on the entire agri-food chain. This is an unprecedented turnover crisis for a sector that in 2018 had reached the record figure of 13.4 million overnight stays. This is what ISMEA knows, which estimates losses of 970 million euros equal to 65% of turnover. The figure is the result first of all from the collapse of international demand, the first turnover item for agritourisms with 59% of total overnight stays, which translates into missed receipts estimated at around 700 million euros.

Added to this is the drop in domestic demand following the lockdown, for which both the Easter period and the bridges of April 25 and May 1 were skipped, with effects that can be estimated in a loss of around € 200 million, equal to 40-50% of the annual fee from Italian guests.

Lastly, again from an internal demand point of view, another 70 million of lost receipts deriving from the cancellation of the visits to the 1500 agritourisms that are also educational farms, used by the school and family segments, and concentrated mainly in the months of April and May .
