Coronavirus and deconfinement: "Will tests be mandatory?"

The government's objective is to have a weekly capacity of 700,000 tests from May 11.

Every day, Le Parisien is mobilized to answer your questions around the coronavirus. Today we are interested in the questioning of "Bertheloot", who asks us if screening will be compulsory.

From May 11, the government's goal is to perform "at least" 700,000 virological tests per week, announced Edouard Philippe Tuesday, April 28 at the National Assembly. This should make it possible to test all the symptomatic people, as well as the individuals they will have encountered the previous days (on average 20 to 25 in each case). "All these contact cases will be tested and asked to isolate themselves," said the Prime Minister.

In each department, the "brigades" health will "ensure that the tests have taken place," said Edouard Philippe to the National Assembly. They will have to "verify that the procedures have been followed," he insisted Monday, May 4 in the Senate, suggesting that this will be mandatory. "Any contact person identified by general practitioners and Health Insurance will be invited to be tested," also tells us the Directorate General of Health.

No forced isolation

The term "invite" is no doubt explained by the fact that there are no sanctions or constraints provided for in the bill extending the state of health emergency if a person already present on the ground French does not respect the instruction to go to be tested. "The spirit of the measures is based on common sense," says Matignon, contacted by Le Parisien.

As for quarantine or isolation measures, they "can only intervene when entering national territory", we read in the text presented to the Council of Ministers on April 2. The Elysee Palace had clarified, after the fact, that this would not concern people who come from a European country either. For individuals already present in France, "we make the choice of trust and responsibility", justified the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, Saturday April 2.
