(ANSA) - NEW YORK, MAY 08 - The Big Apple deserted as a maivista at the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. The other side of New York could not escape the eyes of a New Yorker doc, the director Spike Lee, who decided to capture some images in other times defined as apocalyptic in a short film.
With the title simply 'New York, New York' and the notes of the Frank Sinatra song of the same name, Lee shows diluted scenes that otherwise would have been crowded and instead empty as the streets, subway stations, Broadway theaters, Wall Street, Times Square stadiums or arenasportive and there are scenes of hospitals, medical workers, ambulances or people with the mask that queues to enter supermarkets.
"It is painful - Lee said - not to see anyone but it is at the end of the film that New Yorkers are seen". The short film ends with a sequence that shows the Empire State Building illuminated red and with intermittent lights that make it look like a heart that beats. "It is no coincidence that the director himself defined his film as a love letter to the city. (ANSA).
