BRUSSELS - New recognition of the excellence of Made in Italy food by the European Commission. Brussels has in fact approved the registration in the European Register of food excellence of the '' Caper of the Aeolian Islands '', as a new Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) against imitations and fakes. The decision will take effect on May 27th. In the implementing regulation, the European Commission specifies "that it received a notification of opposition from the municipalities of Malfa, Leni and Santa Maria Salina, including a reasoned declaration of opposition, but that it declared it inadmissible". The name 'Caper of the Aeolian Islands' is therefore registered in Europe and reinforces the basket of protected food excellence in the EU of which Italy is the leader ''.
Capers producers, first and important goal achieved
The Aeolian caper becomes "Dop".
