(ANSA) - CAIRO, MAY 9 - The renewal of the pre-trial detention of Patrick George Zaky, the Egyptian student of the University of Bologna in prison for over three months in Egypt on charges of subversive propaganda on Facebook, is another 15 days. This was reported by one of his lawyers, Hoda Nasrallah, summarizing in a message to ANSA what was communicated to her today by the Prosecutor on the extension already decided on four days without however specifying the duration. The hypothesis was still an additional 15 days of custody.
The student of the Bologna university has been detained since 7 February (the day of a controversial detention formalized under arrest on 8). A month later there was a first extension of 15 days, then, three times in March and four last month the hearing, which took place last Tuesday, was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Among the charges against Patrick, the "spread of false news", "incitement to protest" and "instigation to violence and terrorist crimes".
