Recall: So far, this problem has existed at both BMW and Toyota
The recall was called due to a mechanical defect in the belt buckles, as reported by the Federal Motor Transport Authority. At BMW this affects the two front seats, at Toyota only the driver's seat.
The mechanical error affects the sensor system of the belt system. As a result, a correctly buckled person cannot be recognized as such by the vehicle.
Recall: Defect expresses similarly at BMW and Toyota
With the Toyota car models affected by the recall , this can lead to incorrect acoustic and visual warning signals, which can be very annoying. With BMW models , it can even result in functions no longer being available.
If the error occurs, neither the "Seat belt tensioning" function nor the "Adaptive belt force limitation" function can be carried out. On BMW models , the driver is also made aware of the malfunction via the "Driving without a seat belt" signal.
Recall: These BMW vehicles are affected
The Munich-based carmaker BMW issued a recall for a total of 10,400 copies. The models X3 and X4, as well as copies of the 3 and 8 series are affected. The model codes in detail are, for the models X3, X4 and 8 series:
- G01
- G02
- G14
- G15
- G16
- F91
- F92
- F93
- F97
- F98
For the 3 series, only models with codes G20 and 21 are affected.
In Germany, the recall applies to exactly 736 vehicles. These were manufactured between November 2019 and March 2020. According to the company, no accidents have yet been reported in connection with the defect described.

Recall: These Toyota vehicles are affected
At the motor vehicle manufacturer Toyota , far more vehicles are affected by the recall . The Japanese manufacturer's recall also applies worldwide. A total of 488,000 copies are affected by the defect. There are 43,723 affected vehicles in Europe. Of these, 5,483 copies are registered in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Recall at BMW and Toyota: It is now up to those affected
Those affected by the recall should go to an authorized workshop of the respective manufacturer. For models from the manufacturer BMW , the repair can take between 15 and 60 minutes. Here the belt buckle is checked first and replaced if necessary. The lower flange is exchanged directly with this.
For customers of the car manufacturer Toyota affected by the recall, a time of one hour is calculated for the repair. The entire component is not necessarily replaced here. Because the models from the Japanese manufacturer also offer the option of replacing only the slide switch installed in the lock.
