Pierre Lescure: "Cannes must not draw the curtain"

INTERVIEW - Tuesday, May 12, the largest film festival in the world should have opened. The list of certain films which were to appear in the official selection will be revealed very soon. They will be stamped "Cannes 2020" for their release on the big screen.


The Cannes Film Festival will not roll out its red carpet as planned on Tuesday 12 May, or even at the end of June as the organizers have planned. While the deconfinement begins this Monday in France in a cautious way, that the date of the reopening of cinemas is not yet known, its president, Pierre Lescure, details the measures envisaged to make this 2020 edition exist otherwise.

Pierre LESCURE. - The edition of Cannes 2020 in its traditional form is canceled. We considered all options in real time. By the end of the summer, there will be no festival with its “totems”, to use the expression of Thierry Frémaux, which make its appeal and its renown worldwide. But Cannes must not draw the curtain, in order to be able to support the reopening of theaters when the time comes. In one form or another, which is not yet fully settled.
