New record for Zoom, the videochat that became very popular following the coronavirus epidemic. According to Sensor Tower analysts, in April it was the most downloaded app - excluding video games - worldwide, surpassing the social TikTok. Among the new entries, the Indian app for coronavirus tracing came in seventh place.
Zoom downloads from the App Store stores for iPhone and iPad and Google Play for Android devices touched 131 million, 60 times more than in April 2019. 18.2% of the total downloads took place in India, on the 14th, 3% in the USA.
The Chinese TikTok placed second with 107 million downloads (2.5 times more than a year ago), of which 22% in India and 9.4% in the USA. However, the data is presumably underestimated because it does not include downloads made by stores for Android other than Google Play, which is not available in China.
Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger occupy from third to sixth position. In seventh place is Aarogya Setu, the Indian app to track the contagions of Covid-19 that the New Delhi government has made mandatory for a large part of the population.
Eighth and tenth are Google Meet and Microsoft Teams respectively, i.e. the video conferencing apps of the two hi-tech giants. In ninth position is Netflix.
