Double attack in Afghanistan, suicide bomber at a funeral and assault on a hospital

A group of gunmen raided a hospital in Kabul, Police District 13 of the Afghan capital, Dasht-e Barchi area, this morning - opening fire on the police. Area residents also speak of at least two explosions.

An MP, Mahdi Rasekh, confirmed that an unknown number of doctors were trapped in the hospital and security forces have arrived on the scene according to other sources. For now there is no news of victims.

The toll on the attack is at least five people died - three women, a child and a member of the security forces - and four others were injured. This is reported by the Afghan TV Tolonews. Afghan forces have rescued over 40 people, while others are still trapped in the facility, said an Interior Ministry spokesman, Tariq Arian, adding that the agents "are trying to evacuate the clinic."

Another attack always occurred at a funeral in Jalalabad this morning and resulted in at least 60 deaths and injuries: a local government spokesman said.
"At around 11:00 am a suicide bomber detonated his explosives during a funeral ceremony," said the spokesman, adding that "forty people were killed and injured in the attack, according to preliminary reports." The dead would be 20 and 40 the wounded. The Taliban have denied any involvement in the attack.
