  • The hairbrush is in constant use.
  • This leaves a lot of dirt.
  • You can clean them with simple tricks.

Have you ever wondered how much dirt actually accumulates in the hairbrush? After all, it is used several times a day and is sometimes adversely affected. After just a few uses, a mountain of hair will collect in it. The Instagram cleaning fairy Mrs. Hinch has now checked the matter closely.

Instagram cleaning fairy shows how dirty hairbrushes really are

Mrs. Hinch, actually Sophie Hinchcliffe, is known in the UK as the queen of cleaning tricks. Her Instagram profile has 3.4 million subscribers, in which she regularly gives tips about the household. This included a trick that helps clean the hairbrushes - and at the same time reveals how much dirt is actually in it.

The cleaning tip works very simply: Mrs. Hinch first runs a flat comb over the brush to get the hair out between the bristles. Once that's done, she puts the brushes and hair clips in a sink and fills it with hot - but not boiling - water. Add a tablespoon of washing up liquid * and a teaspoon of white wine vinegar - and stir a few times. The whole thing then lets it take effect for an hour.

But within a very short time it already becomes clear : the water turns brown and dark . A sign that the dirt is loosening from the brushes. You can now imagine how dirty the water is if you don't clean the brushes for more than five weeks . It's been that long since Mrs. Hinch gave her hair accessories a refresher. Once the brushes are clean, Mrs Hinch puts them on a towel to dry and drains the discolored water.

If you are now wondering where all the dirt comes from: As a rule, these are dead hair scales, dust * and remains of hair products . "Like all your beauty accessories, hair brushes get dirty with every use, especially if you use styling products for your hair," explains dermatological surgeon Dr. Sejal Shah of Good Housekeeping magazine. The deposits on the hairbrush can become a breeding ground for bacteria and cause an overproduction of yeast. " So there is a risk of infection, " warns the expert. That is why it is all the more important that you clean your hairbrushes regularly.
