Berlin (dpa / tmn) - Tenants are allowed to plant and design the balcony and terrace according to their taste. Because this is part of the contractual use of the rental apartment. This is pointed out by the owner association Haus & Grund Germany.
However, there are exceptions: the landlord can prohibit ivy or other climbing plants from growing on the facade. Such plants can destroy the masonry through their growth. The landlord does not have to accept this.
In order to avoid discrepancies, tenants should therefore ask the landlord for approval in advance. It is also important that tenants attach flower boxes, pots and hanging baskets in such a way that they hold up well in wind and weather. So that they do not endanger anyone and do not harm the neighbors.
