Definitely, the year 2020 will be the dark year, too, in the annals of art history. The ultimate postponement of the 17th Architecture Biennale from 2020 to the spring of 2021, then the outright cancellation of the 59th Art Biennale from 2021 postponed to 2022, give a new dimension to this crisis which continues to push the frontiers from the unknown. Because Venice is the very symbol of a living art, of a permanent mixing of works, personalities and ideas.

The congestion of events continues in the long term. The summer of 2022 will therefore see the 59th Venice Biennale at the same time (earlier than usual, from April 23 to November 27), at the same time as the 15th Documenta in Kassel, in the heart of Germany, and the Biennale from Lyon already shifted to September. " No cause and effect relationship," says President Roberto Cicutto. On the other hand, Manifesta Marseille, the itinerant biennial which was to open in June in the big French city, intends to be held in the fall, from August 28 to November 29
