From Stephen Frears to Johnny Hallyday, discover the program of the Champs-Élysées Film Festival

The 9th edition of the independent cinema event will take place online from June 9 to 16. On the program in particular, a British master class and a documentary on the idol of young people.


While most film festivals are forced to throw in the towel, some are trying to adapt their 2020 edition to the constraints of the coronavirus health crisis. While in Cabourg, we bet on the drive-in for the romantic film festival, in the capital, we bet on digital. The Champs-Élysées Film Festival will organize its 9th edition online, announced the film producer and event director Sophie Dulac.

"Our ambition today is to be able to present to the public the young creation of French and American independent cinema which needs more than ever to be supported and highlighted ," she said in a press release published on the website of festival. In solidarity with all of them, and for the first time in its history, the festival will be accessible free of charge throughout France from our website from June 9 to 16. ”

The public will have access to all of the short films selected by the festival via a specialized platform. The feature films, which will be available with limited access, will be broadcast according to a program schedule faithful to previous editions. Anyone wishing to participate in the event can now create their account in a few clicks from the festival site.

Films maybe never in theaters ...

In total, around forty independent films will be presented in two competitions (French and American). “Some of these films will be on view once the theaters are reopened. Others, like quite a few Americans, may not be lucky enough to find a distributor. This is an opportunity to discover these films today because, perhaps, you will never be able to see them on the big screen, ” specifies Sophie Dulac.

The festival will open on the evening of June 9 with Jumbo , a feature film by Belgian director Zéo Wittock, directed by Noémie Merlant and Emmanuelle Bercot. Don't miss the master classes of British directors Stephen Frears ( My Beautiful Laundrette , Dangerous Liaisons ) and Edgar Wright ( Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz ) or Retiens la nuit , documentary on Johnny Hallyday by Simon Depardon, Arthur Verret and Baptiste Drouillac.
