Is Netflix now sending its own participants to the ESC? You would think that because of a mysterious commercial. We reveal what the video is about.

  • A strange Netflix commercial ran on ESC weekend .
  • From the video alone it was difficult to see exactly what the streaming service is advertising.
  • Netflix subscribers and ESC fans can expect a very special surprise soon.

The ESC 2020 was scheduled to take place on May 16, 2020, but was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic . However, withdrawal symptoms did not have to be feared by Eurovision fans, because the broadcasters ARD and ProSieben quickly put on two replacement shows. Incidentally, the latter was organized by none other than Stefan Raab .

Those who stayed in place during the commercial breaks at the ProSieben event may have been surprised by a mysterious Netflix spot . Since the clip does not really reveal what it is about, we clarify the most important questions in this post:

Netflix with mysterious ESC commercial: What exactly is the streaming service advertising?

Are these new ESC candidates from a Scandinavian country? Why does the face of the male musician look so familiar? And what does Netflix * have to do with all of this? A Eurovision music video by the streaming service raises questions about questions without clearly answering them in the clip. We therefore bring light to dark:

Will the duo take part in the ESC 2021 or have they already competed?  Despite the clear ESC potential, the musicians will not take part in the contest. We can also reassure longtime Eurovision fans: they have not missed anything because the two have never been on the ESC stage in the past.

Why do the faces of the musicians seem so familiar? Quite simply: The truth is not that the musicians are real, but the actors Rachel McAdams ("Doctor Strange", "Midnight in Paris") and Will Ferrell  ("Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgundy", "Buddy - The Christmas Elf" ").

Why is Netflix promoting ESC? With the music video, Netflix is not promoting the ProSieben ESC event, but an in-house production: soon the film "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga" will appear on the platform.

Netflix produces its own film about the ESC: when does it appear?

Similar to the Netflix hit "Tiger King" *, it would be obvious that the streaming service publishes a documentary about the ESC. In fact, on June 26, 2020 , a comedy will be released that tells of the musicians Lars Erickssong (Ferrell) and Sigrit Ericksdottir (McAdams) and their participation in the ESC . Incidentally, the story of the duo is fictitious.

The music video for the song "Volcano Man" already gives an insight into what the subscribers can expect:

Will the Americans succeed in staging the enthusiasm of the Europeans for the ESC ? All of this shows up on June 26 when  "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga" starts on Netflix .
