Coronavirus infection tracking technology "is now in the hands of health authorities around the world, with whom we have worked and who will decide how to use it". Apple and Google have announced that they have been working together on the project since 10 April. The system was requested by 22 countries, including Italy, its formalization is a prelude to the launch of the Immuni app. The fundamental component is the notification of exposure to the infection that will use the blutooth and will be "voluntary, anonymous and respectful of privacy".

"We have collaborated to build the contagion exposure notification technology that will allow health authority apps to work more accurately, reliably and effectively on both Android and iPhone phones - I add Apple and Google - In the past few weeks, our two companies they worked together with health authorities, scientists, privacy organizations and leaders of governments around the world to collect contributions and indications. The notification of exposure has the specific objective of early warning, which is particularly important for slowing the spread of the disease since the virus can spread asymptomatically. "

The two companies reiterate that the basis of the system is respect for privacy, the use of bluetooth with low impact on the phone battery, voluntariness and anonymity. In particular, users must explicitly choose to activate exposure notifications and can deactivate them at any time; the system does not collect or use the location of the device; it is users who decide if they want to report a positive diagnosis; user identities are not known to other users, Google or Apple; exposure notifications are matched only on the device, under the user's control. In addition, the system is used only by official public health authorities and is not monetized. Google and Apple will shut down the system on a regional basis when it is no longer needed.

"Exposure notifications do not replace traditional contact tracking, but aim to increase those efforts," conclude the two companies.
