Just time for the family or a good book - everyone wants that on vacation. If you are already planning your vacation days for 2020, you can get the most out of your vacation days. Because some public holidays fall on a working day. It depends on which state you live in.

January

January 1 is traditionally a public holiday as New Year's Day and falls on a Wednesday in 2020. With just two days of vacation on Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday, you can enjoy a five-day break. In Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Saxony-Anhalt, January 6th, Epiphany , is also a public holiday. So here you even have six days off in a row.

April

Good Friday and Easter Monday fall on April 10th and 13th and are nationwide public holidays. If you take time off from April 4th to April 19th, you will make 16 days off from eight days off.

May

May 1st is Labor Day throughout Germany and falls on a Friday in 2020. With four days of vacation, two weekends and the public holiday, there will be nine days off. In Berlin, the liberation from National Socialism is celebrating its 75th anniversary , so Friday, May 8th is also a public holiday that can be turned into nine days of relaxation.

August, October and November

August 15th is the Assumption - but unfortunately on a Saturday. In October there is the Day of German Unity on October 3 and in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland is November 1 All Saints' Day . Annoyingly, however, these two days also fall on the weekend.

If you want to enjoy a cozy Christmas, take time off from December 19th to January 3rd.
