Since last May 13, the deputies of the Free Destourian Party (PDL), a secular political formation inspired by Bourghibism and led by the passionate Abir Moussi - with undisclosed sympathies for the period of the former President Ben Ali - are in sit-ins within the Parliament to protest against President of Parliament Rached Ghannouchi.
MEPs ask Ghannouchi to report back to the classroom to "clarify his unannounced contacts with foreign countries" in reference to his meeting with the Turkish head of state, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Since 20 May, the deputies of the PDL have raised their level of protest by starting a hunger strike, accusing the President of Parliament of violation of diplomatic norms, asking that he be heard on the reasons for his phone call with the President of the High Council of Libyan state, Khaled Al-Mishri, belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood organization. Application refused by the classroom bureau for "lack of legal basis".
Meanwhile, the state of health of MP Mejdi Boudhina has deteriorated due to his hunger strike and has been rescued by doctors.
Four parliamentary groups, 'Qalb Tounes', 'National Reform', 'Tahya Tounes' and 'Al-Moustakbal' also invited the President of Parliament in a joint letter to respect diplomatic practices and avoid interference of powers, in addition to respecting the constants of Tunisian diplomacy of non-interference in foreign affairs.
"The positions expressed and issued by the Presidency of the Parliament on foreign affairs do not represent in any way the position of Parliament and do not bind it in any way until such positions have been discussed and approved in the classroom", reads the motion . The four groups say that their joint declaration is the result of "repeated interference by President Ghannouchi in Tunisia's foreign policy, which in fact involves the Tunisian state in the internal conflicts of some countries and in the struggles of the regional axes, in total contradiction with the official positions ".
The al-Sarraj government in Libya had reported in recent days about a phone call between Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj and Rached Ghannouchi, in which the president of the Tunisian parliament congratulated al-Sarraj on the liberation of the Al- air base Watiya by the forces of the Gna. A statement that provoked controversial reactions in various Tunisian parliamentary groups and political parties, against any interference in Libyan affairs and any involvement in the domestic politics of other countries.
