It will be for six hours, in the middle of a long weekend. Before and after, controls continue to prevent the entry of tourists. "Do not come because you will not be able to enter," said Mayor Guillermo Montenegro.

This Sunday, Mar del Plata will dawn (as long as the bolt has had the expected consistency), without "Covid tourism" . That is: without someone entering at dawn who did not have something duly accredited to do in the city. The seven possible entries will be closed from midnight this Saturday until 6 am. The goal is to prevent outsiders from entering the city to prevent an outbreak of coronavirus.

From the "don't come" of Easter, a long holiday in which the key decision was made to reject tourism in the incipient outbreak of infections in the country, the city hardened its motto in times of pandemic. "They are not going to be able to enter," announced Mayor Guillermo Montenegro on Friday and then took measures in that regard.

To prevent the arrival of tourists or people who have nothing to do in Mar del Plata, controls had already been strengthened in the seven accesses through which outsiders could arrive. But to emphasize the refusal, on Friday night they issued a decree that establishes its total closure  from the first minute of Sunday and for six hours. Freight transportation and official vehicles of the security, health and fire forces are excepted.

This was initially confirmed by Rodolfo Iriart, former Secretary of Security for the city and these days coordinator of the Buenos Aires Ministry of Security and the municipalities of the Atlantic Coast. "Between midnight and 6 in the morning, as in other districts, private vehicles may not enter Mar del Plata, " he said.

After a business reopening trial, they were closed again and the Mar del Plata merchants protested. (Télam)

"Please refrain from trying to come the long weekend to our shores," he tweeted after warning that in recent days the number of people seeking to enter the district has increased , and that the majority of those who try to do so are from the Federal Capital.

THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ENTER

We continue taking care of the people of Mar del Plata and that is why we are rejecting more than 100 cars per day in the 7 entries to our city. Controls are tight, and we will continue on that path. Do not come to Mar del Plata because you will not be able to enter. pic.twitter.com/qQEUWWBbJU

On Thursday, according to sources from the Commune to this newspaper, 130 vehicles were rejected at the access controls, the drivers of which made all kinds of excuses. Relatives to take care of, medications to withdraw, repairs in their own apartments that cannot wait, constraints, emergencies.

Mayor Montenegro's decree mentions that greater control will be exercised in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area in the population in general and on the routes in particular "due to the increase in positive cases with Covid-19".

Starting this Sunday we will not allow vehicles to enter the city at dawn. Controls are getting stricter because we know that it is the best way to take care of all the residents of General Pueyrredon. pic.twitter.com/UR0h2QypWN

It also indicates that "adequately serving the demand that the few and isolated incomes of individuals mean to the Party of General Pueyrredón implies a great cost, since various material and human resources are destined to carry out the corresponding documentation and health control."

"It is necessary to adjust the efforts and resources available to the municipality in order to be used efficiently," says the rule that was issued on the eve of the long weekend.

Mar del Plata closed the week with 12 people being treated for Covid-19 and 8 cases under study. Of those 12 patients, only 1 is not a health worker. This was confirmed on Friday night. This is a 37-year-old man who arrived from the City of Buenos Aires after maintaining close contact with a positive case of coronavirus. This is what the authorities want to avoid here: opening the door to community contagion, not yet proven on these beaches.

"Don't even think of coming to Mar del Plata because they won't be able to enter," cabinet coordinator Alejandro Rabinovich posted on his Twitter account. "Today we achieved the epidemiological situation by being inflexible in income and this will continue to be the case," he said forcefully: "We do not want Covid tourism . "
