About 400 migrants landed on the shoreline of Palma di Montechiaro, in the Agrigento area. A mother ship would have left them a few meters from the beach before returning to sea. Police and carabinieri are raking the area and a helicopter has soared. The migrants who landed in the area below the Castle of Palma di Montechiaro, in small groups, are fleeing along the roads and the countryside. Many have poured onto state highway 115, towards Agrigento. They ask for motorists in transit and to board the cars. At least three Coast Guard patrol boats engaged in the search for the mother ship.
Police, carabinieri and soldiers of the harbor master's office are sifting - between roads and countryside - the whole area close to the landing site.

Fifty-two migrants from sub-Saharan Africa, including some women, were blocked by the carabinieri of the Linosa (Ag) station after they managed to get to the rocks of the smallest island of the Pelagie with a boat of about 10 meters. The Coast Guard has already been advised that the 52 will have to be transferred to Lampedusa. In the meantime, a boat in international waters has been intercepted and is traveling to Italy.

From the Viminale's data, updated to 22 May, 4,445 migrants arrived this year in Italy, not to mention the approximately 450 arrived today on the Agrigento coast and on the island of Linosa and the approximately 70 landed yesterday between Lampedusa and Marsala. In the same period of 2019 arrivals had been 1,361, while in 2018 they had reached 10,693. The total number of migrants who arrived last year amounts - still according to the data of the Ministry of the Interior - to 11,471; in 2018 there were 23,370.
