Blind Italian opera singer Andrea Buccelli revealed on Wednesday in a Facebook post that she had contracted and recovered from the Corona virus.

Buccelli, 61, said he and a number of family members had contracted the virus early in March, but his recovery was rapid and by the end of the month was already well.

The Corona Opera star's fight took place just weeks before his historic "Music for Hope" concert, which was broadcast live on his YouTube channel from the Milan Cathedral, in the midst of the Corona wave. The concert was held on Easter, and has received over 40 million views so far.

"The epidemic that shook the world has also hit me and some of my family, albeit lightly," he said in a Facebook post.

"Out of respect for those who are more severely infected with the virus, I decided not to disclose my illness," he said of the decision not to reveal his private battle with the virus. "I didn't want to pressure my fans and also wanted to protect my family's privacy," he added.

Butchley announced that he would donate antibodies from his blood to help those working on developing the deadly virus vaccine: "When given the opportunity to donate blood to help find a vaccine, my immediate answer was yes," he revealed. "It's a modest but important contribution, and through that I take a small part in the fight."
