Deconfinement, phase 2: accelerated reopening of schools, colleges and high schools

2020-05-28T16:26:54.091Z

During his speech, the Prime Minister detailed the measures concerning the reopening of schools after June 2

The Prime Minister's statements were more than expected by the millions of parents of students, eager for information concerning the end of the school year and the return, or not, of their offspring in class in the midst of a coronavirus epidemic. According to the latest data sent by the Ministry of National Education, only 20% of primary school students and 30% of middle school students have resumed since May 12 and, very often, part-time.

"The reopening of schools and establishments is a social emergency and an educational imperative," insisted Jean-Michel Blanquer, the Minister of Education.

The Parisian takes stock of these announcements relating to the after June 2 and the continuation of the deconfinement.

Schools open in 100% of the municipalities

As with the crèches, the schools welcoming kindergarten and primary pupils have, for the most part, reopened, but with a limited number of pupils: 15 pupils per class, here too, a priority given to certain families. The executive announced in late April its ambition to proceed, from June 2, the reception of all students in these classes, with strict sanitary measures.

This Thursday, the Minister of Education said that "all families who wish should be able to send their children to school, at least for part of the week". With, he specifies, "always groups of 15 students maximum". Jean-Michel Blanquer evokes the development in parallel of sporting, cultural activities, "conceived with the communes". "Students can be either in class or in this type of activity, especially when parents have to work."

The colleges, all open

The announcements concerning college students were particularly awaited. To date, only pupils from 6th and 5th of the departments classified in green have returned to school. The Prime Minister, who was committed to deciding at the end of May the return or not to class of the pupils of the red zones as well as of all the 4th and the 3rd, announced that "all the colleges will open, green or orange zone "

In the departments classified in orange, priority will be given "to pupils of 6th and 5th and to other levels if the material conditions are met", revealed the minister. He evokes "case by case", and flexibility "by looking at what is happening on the ground".

In high school, differentiated and oral return to French canceled

As with middle school students, high school students were expectant. None, has yet returned to the classroom and more and more teachers fear a massive dropout.

In the general and technological streams, "students will be welcomed when convened by the educational team, for individual interviews and to take stock of their orientation projects and the follow-up of higher education," said the Minister of Education.
