The head of the Cabinet of the City of Buenos Aires, Felipe Miguel, assured this Thursday that although the duration of social, preventive and compulsory isolation is a decision of the national government, the City's projections show that the quarantine "could last from here to between six and ten weeks ", end of July or beginning of August.
"The Buenos Aires Minister of Health, Fernán Quirós, spoke of a period of duration of isolation for the City from here to between six to ten weeks; this is what the projections we are working with show and they serve us greatly to be able to size the reinforcement that we did to the Health system, "he said in statements made to Radio La Red.
In that sense, the Buenosairean official clarified that "that is the best projection that we have at the moment and that later it will be necessary to see how those weeks will be, if they allow a greater or lesser opening of activities, which we will measure day by day."
In any case, he stressed that the duration of the quarantine "is the responsibility of the national government and gives us the space to share criteria and all the necessary information."
Regarding the strengthening of the City's health system, Felipe Miguel highlighted the increase in health personnel, equipment such as respirators and other devices, intensive care beds, hotel rooms and general hospital beds.
Likewise, he referred to the sharp rise in infections in the City of Buenos Aires and said that they increased fivefold: "Contagion cases are increasing at a current average of 400 per day , which the health system can sustain and attend to accordingly. In addition to the fact that we are prepared for more, but 15 days ago there were an average of 80 daily cases, they multiplied by five, "he clarified.
He remarked that "what we cannot do is stop the virus, but we can, individually, comply with the measures and recommendations to reduce the rate of increase in cases of infection and from the State to strengthen the Health system."
Regarding whether it is possible to "make flexible " the isolation by neighborhoods in the City of Buenos Aires, Felipe Miguel confirmed that "it is not a good solution because the virus is circulating in all Buenos Aires neighborhoods."
In turn, he highlighted the work carried out by the Buenos Aires government to address the situation in the popular neighborhoods, where the increase in cases has increased in recent weeks.
