The Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra explores itself in ... a zoo

After more than two months without playing, the musicians of the philharmonic met in the open air to perform pieces by Bizet, Mozart and Handel, but also Beatles titles. But no Animal Carnival on the program.


Bizet and Mozart at the zoo. After several weeks of confinement, the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra has returned to service. It was in the middle of the Croatian capital's zoo that violins, oboes and cellos sounded again after two and a half months of silence.

From Tchaikovsky to the Beatles

For this particular event, the philharmonic orchestra has chosen an eclectic repertoire. The first part of the concert was dedicated to the classical, with the essential Carmen by Georges Bizet, the Little Night Music by Mozart or the Waltz of Flowers by Tchaikovsky. After that, Yesterday by The Beatles, Imagine by John Lennon and titles Simon & Garfunkel came to modernize the program. Songs in honor of the city of Zagreb were also played.

At the end of March, a major earthquake of magnitude 5.3 struck the Croatian capital, resulting in one death and significant material damage. A double pain with the epidemic of Covid-19 that this first concert of the philharmonic helped to alleviate somewhat, by restoring a little balm to the hearts of the inhabitants.
