Kassel - In one of its last tests, the Stiftung Warentest examined various bread spreads  ( vegan ). All of the 25 products tested were identified as vegan . So they were not only made without meat or fish, as is the case with vegetarian products, but completely without animal ingredients. This includes not only obviously animal products like milk or curd, but also less obvious ones like honey. 

The tested products could be divided into three categories: mushrooms, lentils and tomatoes and / or peppers. All test products used were purchased between November and December last year.

In the category that made up 20 percent of the overall grade, each spread was examined to see if the information was correct. The nutritional-physiological quality of the respective spread (vegan) was 10 percent in the overall rating. In this category of the Stiftung Warentest test , the fat and salt content was determined in a laboratory, among other things, and the energy content was calculated. Some of these values ​​were then assessed using the reference values ​​of the German Nutrition Society. In addition, some values ​​were compared with an average of different spread sausages.
