The milk substitute enjoys increasing popularity in recent years. With 34 million liters sold in 2018, sales have doubled compared to 2016.

The surprisingly well rated oat drinks ( vegan ) in the test by Stiftung Warentest consist largely of water and, as the name suggests, oats . The 18 oat drinks assessed by Stiftung Warentest contained between 9 and 16 percent oats .

In the production of the vegan milk alternative, 70 percent less climate-damaging emissions are released than is the case with cow's milk. 

According to Stiftung Warentest , production is also more water-efficient than with cow's milk. For one liter of cow's milk, a total of 250 liters of water are consumed; for the vegan alternative made from oats , it is only 3.4 liters.

Oat milk tested by Stiftung Warentest: These vegan oat drinks have been tested

In the Stiftung Warentest test, 18 different oat drinks ( vegan ) were rated. Of these, seven were calcium-enriched and eleven were not. With the exception of four of the oat drinks, all products were able to show an organic seal in the test. In addition to products from well-known brands such as Kölln and Alpro , the own brands of discounters were also examined.

The surprising thing about the test was that none of the oat drinks was rated "satisfactory". However, the testers from Stiftung Warentest rated only three of the 18 oat drinks as excellent in taste.

In the test by Stiftung Warentest , the oat drink (vegan) from Kölln (advertising link) won the race. The experts from Stiftung Warentest gave him the best rating in the entire test. In the oat drink rated "good" (1.8) , no pollutants could be detected. 

According to the Stiftung Warentest, the aroma is only natural for the oat drink with the product name Oat Love Classic. The oats used come from Germany. According to the testers from Stiftung Warentest, its taste is  full-bodied with a strong oat note.

With an overall rating of 1.9 and thus classified as good, two oat drinks were able to conclude in a comparison by Stiftung Warentest . Second place was shared by the oat -drink the Edeka Bio + Vegan series and a competitor of the company Oatly .

No harmful substances were found in the oat drink classic from Edeka's Bio + Vegan range .

Although the product has not been explicitly fortified with calcium, it has a fairly high calcium content. The oat drink can also score with a strong oat note and an oat content of twelve percent. However, the oat drink stood out  due to its high sugar content compared to Stiftung Warentest . This was the highest in the test.

Also in second place of the comparison of Stiftung Warentest is the oat Barista Edition of Oatly . The slightly sweet oat drink ( vegan ) attracted attention in the test due to its very strong oat note , because it is still not bitter.

According to the experts at Stiftung Warentest, the drink with the highest calorie content can be lathered up, just like a real barista edition. Stiftung Warentest , however, points out that the oats - drink that tasted of the winner of the test, is available with a different recipe commercially now.

In terms of taste , the experts at Stiftung Warentest recommend the test winner from Kölln . But the oats - Drinks ( vegan ) brand Oatly came taste good.
