Kassel - Patients with thyroid problems should watch out for their medication very soon. The pharmaceutical manufacturer Hexal from Holzkirchen in Bavaria has started an urgent recall for its drug L-Thyrox . That reports the Health Proportion Produktwarnung.eu. The Drug Commission of the German Pharmacists (AMK) has also urged German pharmacies in an urgent drug notification to check their inventory of the drug L-Thyrox.
The recall applies to the L-Thyrox batch with 100 micrograms tablets of 100 and the batch name (Ch.-B.): KK2878. The expiry date expires in June 2021.
Recall drug from Hexal: risk of confusion
Hexal offers L-Thyrox in four dosages of levothyroxine sodium - 25, 50, 75 and 100 micrograms.
As the portal Produktwarnung.eu reports, the packaging of the 100 microgram batch of L-Thyrox could be incorrectly labeled. Accordingly, it cannot be ruled out that some blisters - the aluminum packaging of the tablets - may incorrectly bear the inscription "25µg". The label "100µg" would be correct
Hexal has therefore started a recall for this lot of the Thyrox drug to prevent possible dosage errors. Incorrect dosage of medication can cause serious health damage.
"Because of this labeling error, there is a risk of unintentional overdosing, with symptoms that also occur with an overactive thyroid," the AMK is quoted by the Deutsche Apotheker Zeitung.
Recall medication from Hexal: How to identify the defective medication
- Medicinal products: L-Thyrox from Hexal100 micrograms tablets
- Pack size: 100 tablets
- Batch name (Ch.-B.): KK2878
Since not all batches of the 100 microgram version of L-Thyrox are affected, patients should check carefully whether they have a possibly faulty batch. A look at the packaging is enough.
The batch name, Ch.-B. If it is "KK2878", customers should return the medication to the pharmacy immediately and inform themselves there about further measures.
Other batches, dosages and packaging sizes should not be affected by the Hexal recall .
Recall drug from Hexal: tablets for the thyroid gland affected
The drug with the active ingredient levothyroxine sodium is used, among other things, to treat an underactive thyroid.
L-thyroxine, also called levothyroxine, is an artificial form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine. The middle is said to compensate for a lack of hormone in the thyroid.
