Documentary "Amir Hatzaroni: Case Documentation" won the documentary category at Swiss Film Festival
The documentary "Amir Hatzaroni: A Case Study" starring Prof. Amir Hatzaroni won a prize at a Swiss film festival in the documentary category. He directed the film and produced Giuseppe (Yossi) Stranger, and he also submitted it to the festival.
"The film was accepted and screened at the Switzerland International Film Festival (SIFF - Switzerland International Film Festival) held every year since 2017, and is directed by Daniel Fogger, who is also the Jury's chair. The film, an hour and five minutes long, follows the life of my father (52) for about a month, during the most difficult times of his life. No fund has supported the film and no broadcasting body has sponsored it and thus the work on the film has taken more than four years.
"The film depicts my life at that time," says Hatzroni, "a celibate's life in distress over the death of my father, a crisis in romantic relationships with then Arab friends, a crisis in his academic career, a conflict with a gravestone builder who initially refused to build my parents' cool tombs because of the cynical text, Meetings with fans, groups, The film, surprisingly, is almost completely free of politics and completely free of provocations, a very personal film about a famous person who does not receive the institutional recognition he deserves.
"This win confirms that I am a classic case of 'no prophet in his city.' Worldwide. "
Why didn't any foundation or broadcasting body support the film?
"The truth is, I assumed that because of the choice of Amir as the object of the film, I would not support the project or demand that it be restricted, so I avoided contacting the funds and broadcasting bodies in the first place," explains Stranger. "It was important to me in this case to tell the truth or not tell it at all."
"It's always fun and flattering to win prizes," the director concludes, "but without underestimating the value of winning - with no prizes going to the grocery store. My strongest desire right now is to find a stable job in the field, and if it happens despite the current difficult condition of the Corona I will be happy."
