When the power cord has wrapped itself around the legs of the sun lounger while mowing the lawn, you want a wireless alternative. Thanks to advanced battery technology, you no longer have to rely on a loud and smelly petrol lawn mower. We tested 18 models.

Basically, cordless lawnmowers work just like their gasoline counterparts: rotor blades rotate at an enormous speed, cutting off the blades of grass. The devices then suck the clippings from the ground and convey them to the grass catcher. Whether electric or gasoline, the grass catcher should be emptied regularly, otherwise the chute will be blocked.

The cordless lawnmowers and petrol lawnmowers are therefore quite similar, but they differ in the amount of energy they need to be used, and that makes the big difference. Cordless lawnmowers work significantly quieter and are cleaner without the drives being too weak.

System batteries influence purchasing decisions

Depending on the model, the motors use voltages from 18 to 58 volts and can often accommodate not just one but two batteries. These are always system batteries. This means that you can exchange them between different devices from the same manufacturer and, for example, put the lawnmower's battery in the electric pruning shears, but they don't fit in devices from other brands.

When buying, it should be noted that not all models are built to last and lawnmowers are generally subjected to heavy loads. Even if small prices may be tempting, the old saying often applies: If you buy cheap, you buy twice .

Cordless lawnmower in the test

The test portal AllesBeste tested 18 cordless lawn mowers in collaboration with the editorial team. The test winner was the Stihl RMA 443 PC . The device is robust, very easy to use and thanks to its own wheel drive helps mowing ramps and embankments. The height of his handlebar can also be easily adjusted.

The luxury recommendation of the editors is the Sabo 43-Accu Vario . It is even more powerful than the test winner and comes with variable wheel drive. However, it is extremely expensive - you pay over 1,000 euros for the lawn mower.
