The French can now fly to Corsica, even without compelling reasons. This is made possible after an amendment to the decree on travel restrictions published this Wednesday in the Official Journal.
In the decree of Monday on the new provisions related to the second phase of deconfinement, it was indicated that air travel between mainland France and the Overseas and Corsica were limited to the imperative family and professional reasons, until new order.
This decision caused a political outcry on the spot. The president of the Executive Council of the Collectivity of Corsica, Gilles Simeoni, had in particular denounced an answer "absolutely not satisfactory" to the risk of rebound of the epidemic. He had asked for the text to be revised.
Tuesday evening, the Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe, assured that the part concerning Corsica, which did not apply to maritime transport, was going to be "corrected in a good way".
This is done in the decree published on Wednesday which concerns only this provision and simply removes the words "or the community of Corsica". Tourism professionals on site, who were worried about the consequences of the first decree on their activities, are relieved by this correction.
