Less than 24 hours after the explosion in a perfumery, located in Villa Crespo, which claimed the lives of two firefighters, a fire broke out in a nursing home that houses 36 older adults in the Almagro neighborhood.
The incident was quickly controlled and there were no fatalities, although four people were referred to different hospitals for burns and smoke inhalation.
The incident occurred on the morning of this Wednesday in a nursing home located at 336 Maza Street, a few blocks from Rivadavia. The firefighters team appeared at the scene, and they quickly surrounded the area; the Same, which organized an Emergency Operational Center; and the Covid-19 transfer team, which treated all older adults as if they were coronavirus patients. In addition, the electricity and gas in the area were cut as a precaution.
Although firefighters quickly controlled the fire, four people were transferred to nearby hospitals. A man presenting with early burns was referred to Htal. del Quemado, while three other older adults were taken to the José María Ramos Mejía General Hospital of Agudos for smoke inhalation.
All the other elderly in the nursing home were evacuated and were left on the sidewalk of the establishment, where they were provided with thermal blankets and hot drinks to face the cold.
For its part, the public health system allocated all available resources to care for the victims and arranged the necessary beds. All older adults in the residence should undergo a swab.
