Berlin (dpa) - According to OECD Education Director Andreas Schleicher, the week-long school closings and the still limited school operations could also be reflected in the next Pisa test results.

It is quite possible that the "social disparities" in later Pisa comparisons will continue to increase, said Schleicher. The publication of the last Pisa results half a year ago, on December 3, had again confirmed the connection, according to which school success in Germany strongly depends on social background.

Schleicher does not rule out that this effect could increase. Children from wealthy families often cope with school closings. "Children from an unfavorable social environment, on the other hand, usually only have one real chance in life, they are good teachers and an efficient school." They lack access to good offers for online learning and sometimes a place to study at home in peace.

According to the education expert, the exceptional situation at schools could also have an impact on the later working life of the pupils. "Ultimately, they can equate a lost school year with seven to ten percent lost life income," he said. Because of the Corona crisis, schools in Germany were closed for weeks and are now only open in limited shifts.

The Pisa study is the largest international school performance comparison study. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is responsible. Since 2000, hundreds of thousands of pupils aged 15 years have been tested every three years in the fields of reading, mathematics and science.

In a switching conference on Tuesday evening (June 2), the federal state ministers of culture discussed how to proceed after the summer vacation. No concrete plans have yet been agreed. All countries have one goal, however, to offer regular school operations again in the new school year, according to the discussion among the participants. However, this depends on the further infection process.
