The bad weather, numerous since the beginning of the week, continues on Thursday. If they affect a large part of the country, they are particularly marked in the South-East, where Météo France places five departments in orange vigilance (level 3 of 4) because of thunderstorms, rain and floods.

Are concerned: Bouches-du-Rhône, Vaucluse, Var, Alpes-Maritimes and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.

Meteo France

The bad weather will gradually shift towards the east and mainly concern the Var, the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and the Alpes-Maritimes until the end of the day, even the beginning of the evening.

Météo France warns of the intensity of precipitation and its stagnation. "In the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes, the rain-storm lines are not very mobile and remain in place as much in the interior of these departments as on the coast." Isolated thunderstorms "are accompanied by strong gusts of wind and occasionally hail". The strongest gusts can flirt with the 100 km / h.

Up to 100 liters per square meter in three hours

"The expected accumulations are of the order of 50 mm to 80 mm (Editor's note: 50 liters to 100 liters per square meter) in less than 3 hours", specifies the meteorological organization. From the end of the night from Wednesday to Thursday until the middle of the afternoon, the cumulative amount can reach 120 mm, or 120 liters per square meter.

In addition, more generally, Keraunos estimates between 5% and 15% the statistical risk of a tornado occurring on a wide strip from the Southwest to the Northeast. "Tubas or weak tornado are not excluded, but the risk is considered low," said the observatory of tornadoes and severe storms. This probability is similar to that of Wednesday when a phenomenon of this kind occurred in Etampes, in Essonne.
