“I tell you here, the United States left WHO, we are thinking about it, in the future […]. Either WHO works without ideological bias, or we are leaving it too. Before adding, visibly satisfied: "Chloroquine is back".

The pandemic of the new coronavirus has killed at least 390,868 people worldwide since its appearance in December in China, according to a report established by AFP from official sources Friday at midday.

More than 6,640,290 cases of infection have been officially diagnosed in 196 countries and territories since the start of the epidemic, of which at least 2,867,400 are now considered cured.

This number of diagnosed cases, however, only reflects a fraction of the actual number of infections. Some countries only test severe cases, others use testing as a priority for tracing, and many poor countries have limited screening capacity.

The United States, which recorded its first death linked to the coronavirus in early February, is the country most affected in terms of number of deaths and cases, with 108,211 deaths for 1,872,660 cases. At least 485,002 people have been declared cured.

After the United States, the most affected countries are the United Kingdom with 39,904 deaths for 281,661 cases, Brazil with 34,021 deaths (614,941 cases), Italy with 33,689 deaths (234,013 cases), and France with 29,065 deaths (189,441 cases).

China (excluding the territories of Hong Kong and Macao), where the epidemic began at the end of December, officially counted a total of 83,027 cases (5 new between Thursday and Friday), including 4,634 deaths and 78,327 recoveries.
