It's the best time of year to eat melons - so that the most beautiful one always ends up in the shopping basket, you only have to pay attention to these features.
Juicy flesh and a delicious taste - you won't find anything better than a melon in summer. So that the snacking experience is also perfect, here are some tips on how to recognize the tastiest melon .
Is the melon ripe? You can recognize it by these characteristics
The Bavarian Consumer Center provides some interesting information. For example, you can recognize a delicious melon by its yellow spot on the bowl. This shows you how ripe the fruit is. The more yellow the storage area, the more ready the melon is for consumption. However, be careful that it is not already overripe.
You can also determine the degree of ripeness by tapping the fruit . With a dark, singing tone, you can eat the melon - but if it sounds metallic, you should still wait.
Even the stem gives an indication of the melon's ripeness. When it has dried out, you can already enjoy the pulp.
Can I tell the taste of the melon?
Also check the weight of the melon : if it is heavier than others of the same size, it is more mature. Incidentally, small melons usually taste sweeter - because the larger ones contain more water. You can also recognize the sweet taste from the multitude of brown stripes on the bowl - the more, the better.
When the melon is ripe, you should also make sure that you eat the seeds and even the peel. Also read what foods you shouldn't eat on high heat.
