(ANSA) - ROME, JUNE 09 - Already in 2019 the Italians had kept the purse strings tight. Average monthly spending had stopped at 2,560 euros, down 0.4% on the previous year, Istat said, speaking of substantially unchanged consumption. However, the reduction becomes visible (-1.0%) if we consider the trend of inflation, the real value of spending. Badly Covid also upsets everything in this case. The Institute of Statistics anticipates that in the first three months of the year there has been, in preliminary estimates, a contraction in the average monthly expenditure of families of 4% in the trend. But the collapse goes over 12% if the necessary disbursements, those dedicated to food and housing, are excluded. (HANDLE).
