The first part of "Lord of the Rings", the sparkling Whoopi Goldberg in "Sister Act", a dramatic comedy with Chiara Mastroianni

FANTASTIC. They will save the world

At 9:05 pm, on TF 1. In the imaginary world of Middle-earth, Frodo Sacquet, young and shy Hobbit peasant, sees himself bequeathing a ring endowed with evil powers which allows him to make himself invisible. Unfortunately for him, many are those who covet him: the dark lord Sauron, to regain his destructive power, or Gollum, a cursed hobbit with a frightening appearance. Frodo begins a perilous journey towards the mountain of Destiny, the only place where the evil ring can be destroyed. A journey with eight companions, during which they will be chased by the forces of evil, and be helped by elves or dwarfs.

"The Lord of the Rings", JRR Tolkien's cult medieval-fantasy literary saga, was said to be unsuitable. By dedicating eight years of his life to it, the New Zealander Peter Jackson demonstrated the opposite and amazed generations of fans with his dazzling "Community of the Ring". After a long exhibition scene, necessary for those who would not have read Tolkien's books, the spectator has an interest in fastening his belt. For this first installment, the director succeeds in a full box: breathless story, flawless casting, stunning special effects, spectacular combat sequences and even a touch of humor as well as sumptuous images for the many scenes shot in natural settings. The film, arguably the most successful in the blockbuster trilogy, is constantly shaking up. Nineteen years after its theatrical release, it has lost none of its epic breath, poetry and visual splendor. Magic…

MOVIE. Damn good sister

Whoopi Goldberg (center), in "Sister Act" ./SND

At 9:05 pm, on M 6. It's hard to resist the sparkling Whoopi Goldberg! Especially when the actress takes the veil in a crazy comedy like this one, where she plays the role of Deloris, a singer who occurs in a casino when she witnesses a murder ... On the run, she seeks the protection of the police hiding her in a convent. Lightning in the nun's dress, promoted to choir director and more worn on hits than on hymns, Whoopi Goldberg gives heart to heart between facial expressions and jokes. The gags punctuate the film, as much as the musical reorchestration of religious songs prompted by this friendly character.

DRAMA. Separate room

At 9:10 p.m., on Canal + . They have been together for over twenty years, but one night it breaks. University professor Maria (Chiara Mastroianni) has long been cheating on her partner Richard (Benjamin Biolay). No matter how much she tells him that no couple can last without unfaithfulness, he is shot dead. Here she slams the door ... To settle in the hotel opposite their home.

From there, "Room 212", by Christophe Honoré, switches to a rather delusional metaphorical universe: Maria is confronted with a rejuvenated Richard of twenty-five, Richard receives the visit of Irene, the one he loved and who 'he did not choose.

While the discussions, bitter or funny, intensify between the two heroes and their lovers who have emerged from the past, and the ubiquitous situations are linked, Honoré installs a very special little music in his staging since the film is punctuated by songs. A unique film of its kind, which constantly oscillates between gravity and lightness, the latter prevailing all the same.

DOCUMENTARY. Doctors and resistance fighters

"Doctors in the Resistance", a documentary by Michel Cymes and Cécile Tartakovsky./Pulsations

At 11.35pm, on France 2. They are among those who refused to submit. In 1940, however, "the doctors are rather conservative, often on the right, sometimes on the far right", underlines Michel Cymes at the beginning of the documentary "Des médecins dans la Résistance". Among those who disobeyed, he mentioned Louis Pasteur Vallery-Radot, descendant of Louis Pasteur, who chaired the Medical Committee of the Resistance, and Robert Debré, son of rabbi and head of department at the hospital for sick children in Paris, including the grandson reveals extracts from his journal.

Read by the actor Didier Sandre, the testimonies of doctors of the time alternate with those of survivors, including Colette Brull-Ulmann, ex-intern at the Rothschild hospital. Here, we learn how social worker Claire Heyman managed to save many children. The documentary also highlights the surgeons involved in the maquis and the Pasteur Institute which developed a parallel production of drugs. Enough to arouse interest despite the fairly monotonous comment.

DOCUMENTARY. Not everything is good in salmon

At 8.50 p.m., on Arte. From 300,000 t in 1993, production rose to 2.6 million tonnes in 2019 and could be multiplied by five in the years to come ... Salmon, the king of fish and plates, from Japan to France, c is gold in bars. Many say it in this film. Not for the same reasons. There are those who see it as an incredible financial windfall - in January 2020 alone, the equivalent of 677 million euros was exported from Oslo - when others see it as a natural treasure to be preserved. And in danger.

Not everything is good in salmon, we have known for years that the price, environmental and human, of the carnivore farming has been raised. Soybeans used in their food, cause of Amazonian deforestation, damage caused by fish farming in the open sea, working conditions of workers ... Albert Knechtel offers as a reminder. Attempting to accompany friends of wild salmon in Norway or Germany, where we are trying to reintroduce it, he also shows that some are trying to produce differently. Not everything is good, but not everything is to be thrown away.
