While the French could favor this summer the hexagonal destinations, crisis of the Covid-19 obliges, the Blue Flag label was awarded this Tuesday to the communes and the marinas which set up a policy of sustainable tourism.
Some 401 beaches are thus labeled in 188 municipalities, as well as 106 marinas. Five ports and twelve municipalities join the list this year while France sits in fourth place in number of sites labeled among the 46 member countries of the Blue Flag label.
"More than 95% of the municipalities and marinas labeled last year have renewed their commitment with the Blue Flag," said a press release.
Best referenced regions of Occitanie and Paca
The award of the label takes into account many criteria including cleanliness of the premises, quality of bathing water, waste management, environmental education and accessibility for people with reduced mobility. The “green algae prevention and limitation policy” was also scrutinized.
The Occitanie region is the best endowed, with 109 beaches and 19 labeled ports, followed very closely by Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur (96 beaches and 31 ports).
Due to restrictions linked to the Covid-19 crisis, "obtaining the Blue Flag label does not guarantee the opening of the labeled site", specifies the label's site. “The Blue Flag invites you to respect the prefectural decrees and to inquire directly with the municipality. "
