Corona virus and heat: special challenges this summer

Because of the Corona crisis *, nothing is the same this year: restriction of social contacts, obligation to wear a face mask when shopping, distance rules when going for a walk. There have never been so many regulations and laws that you have to comply with.

In addition, there is great uncertainty among the population: What can I do? What am I not allowed to do? Two questions that will also accompany us in the upcoming summer months . There will be new easing from June 15, but some of the essential corona rules will remain. For example, the mask requirement and the minimum distance of 1.5 meters.

Corona virus and heat: outdoor pools are allowed to open under hygiene rules in summer

Outdoor pools in North Rhine-Westphalia have been allowed to open again since May 20 *. The permit came as a surprise to the operators of the baths, so that many bathing establishments initially remained closed. Many would first need time to develop hygiene concepts.

It is currently the case that cities and districts can determine for themselves when they want to reopen their outdoor pools . If you want to be on the safe side, whether your favorite bathroom is open or not, you should find out from the respective bathing establishment on the Internet.

Corona virus and heat: swimming in the outdoor pool only with a minimum distance

The good thing: When swimming outdoors, the risk of infection is not as great as in an indoor pool. Provided that the hygiene and infection protection standards of the Ministry of Health are observed.

That means: swimming is allowed, but with sufficient distance. In order for this to work, appropriate rules apply not only to the guests, but also to the bathroom operators. This means that only a limited number of guests are allowed into the cool water and the minimum distance must even be guaranteed when showering. Masks are mandatory in closed rooms. In addition, all guests should be registered in the outdoor pool .

Corona virus and heat: Mask requirement applies even when the temperature rises

Especially in heat that can  distance and hygiene regulations quite annoying. But regardless of the rising temperatures , they must also be observed. This also applies to wearing a face mask in shops and public transport. No matter how hot it is - the mask stays on.

After all: When going for a walk or doing sports in the great outdoors, you do not have to wear a mouthguard . The same applies to the car or in private rooms.

Corona virus and heat: fans and air conditioners are virus hurlers

No matter how difficult it is in the heat: it is better not to use mobile air conditioning units and fans this summer. These are real spins and can blow viruses across the room with the whirled air. This would completely eliminate the minimum distance .

If you want to keep it cool in your apartment, just take these heat tips to heart *. So your own four walls remain bearable despite corona and tropical temperatures. Even in the home office.

Corona virus and heat: Eating and drinking with the necessary corona rules

When the heat comes, the thirst comes. When the temperature rises : drink enough! In summer * it should be around two liters a day. Even better when doing sport. But be careful in Corona times - if your friends have nothing to drink with you, you should better refrain from sharing a bottle.

The same applies to food. Picnics and barbecues are particularly popular in the summer months . However, if you want to be on the safe side, you do not share food. Buffets are also not recommended - unless a face mask is worn or the food is covered (more news from the RUHR24 * service department).

Corona virus and heat: be careful in air-conditioned buildings

When the heat is high, many people look for beneficial cooling in air-conditioned buildings such as supermarkets, cinemas or shopping centers . This is not advisable during the corona pandemic .

On the one hand, air conditioning systems are real virus throwers and, on the other hand, these facilities should not be visited more often than necessary. Those who are often in large crowds risk being infected. The minimum distance is not always guaranteed.

If you are still looking for protection against heat in air-conditioned buildings, you should absolutely comply with the generally applicable hygiene rules . That means: keep your mouthguard open and keep your distance . And limit the length of stay.
