Coronavirus: Iran, India and China concerned about virus recovery

2020-06-16T12:36:10.474Z

These three countries are seeing a resumption of the circulation of the disease and are taking measures to try to curb it.

The situation is again tightening in several countries because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Iran, India and China are taking, will take or plan to take further restrictive measures to stem the spread of the new coronavirus.

Officially, the disease has killed more than 430,000 people worldwide since its onset. The country most affected in number of victims is the United States with more than 110,000 deaths, according to figures from Johns Hopkins University, which refers.

Iran could reimpose restrictions. Iran warned on Monday that it could reimpose strict measures to contain the spread of the new coronavirus, announcing more than 100 deaths for the second day in a row. 8,950 people have died since the first case appeared on Iranian soil. 2449 new infections have been confirmed in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 189 876.

The Iranian government closed schools, canceled public events and prohibited travel between provinces in March before starting to gradually lift restrictions on the virus from April. Official figures from the Ministry of Health show an upward trend in new confirmed cases since early May when Iran reached a lower number of patients.

The government spokesman, Ali Rabii, deplored this Monday the non-respect of physical distance by pilgrims in places of worship and by those who use public transport. "If we find that the spread of the virus is out of control [...] then we will certainly apply strict decisions again," he warned.

India is reconfiguring the big city of Chennai. The Indian state of Tamil Nadu ordered this Monday the reconfiguration of the agglomeration of Chennai because of the virulence of the epidemic of coronavirus.

It is the first major step backwards in deconfinement in India. The measure will be in effect from Friday until the end of the month. It also concerns adjoining areas of the city. Essential businesses will only be able to open until 2 p.m. The movements of residents will be limited to a radius of 2 km.

Faced with a bloodless economy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi largely lifted the draconian confinement imposed on the 1.3 billion Indians at the end of the month earlier this month to curb the spread of Covid-19. Some restrictions still remain in place. But the deconfinement takes place while the epidemic still shows no signs of reflux. The country now registers more than 11,000 new confirmed cases per day and has so far identified a total of 332,423. The South Asian giant officially deplores 9,520 deaths, a figure considered to be underestimated.

In China, new confined areas of Beijing. China is redoubling its efforts to try to stem a rebound of the disease in Beijing, the capital, where 79 cases linked to a giant market have already been identified. Until the outbreak was discovered last week, the new coronavirus appeared to be virtually eradicated from the country. As a result, the temperature controls that had just disappeared at the entrance to residential areas and office buildings have reappeared. And the cultural and sports sites will be closed. A second market is suspected on Monday of being the source of new cases.

The authorities have closed the first sales outlet and surrounding schools and ordered the confinement of 10 nearby residential areas, prohibiting residents from leaving it. Access to all of Beijing's residential areas will again be denied to non-residents, a senior city official said to the press.

The concept of “residential zone”, specific to China, consists of a space of several buildings surrounded by grids or walls, access to which is generally only possible by one or two entrances, making confinement all the more easier to apply. Eleven of them had already been reconfigured.
